There is so much out there today, so many thumbprints, we are all valid, all expressions and interpretations welcome. What we teach shouldn't be fancy or elitist, just honest, authentic connection
I empower, inspire and support movement teachers in finding their unique voice and expression, at whatever stage they’re at on their teaching pathway, sharing twenty years of knowledge, with curiosity and creativity.
The body holds a deep resource of intelligence, it feels all the living relationships within the world around us. It understands the connection to each other, to nature, to trees, to birds, to mountains, oceans and butterflies. The body is incredible, it feels everything with every living cell. To connect is to arrive in the present moment. This ‘deep fitness’ is a way to attune into the body, to really begin to listen, to feel the sounds of the world within the deep wisdom of our flesh and bones.
Like meditation, practising and teaching Pilates has taught me qualities of being and of deep awareness. Of spaciousness and fluidity. Teaching I am mostly fully present, fully receptive, open to every bit of guidance available to me, without judgement, or need to organise any outcome, things just flow. My relationship with my students is clear and open to allow their own self enquiry and attunement. This feels like harmony to me and it's seeped into many areas of my life and I hope its contagious.
A search for wholeness
I have been holding space for nearly two decades and the space holds me alongside many others in our quest for connection, mind, body and spirit. My offering is deeply personal, refined and honed. Alongside my teaching I am creating space for my writing and mentorship. I have been writing my own personal heroine’s journey since lockdown, its been one of the most healing things I’ve ever done. My years of teaching I’ve discovered have become a quest for Wholeness.
Originally I trained as a weaver at Central St. Martins, I designed fabrics for interiors, it took patience, persistence and a lot of looking at fine detail…and of course creativity. It may seem like a completely different path I started upon in 2001 when I took my first pilates class, but it really isn’t. To create a beautifully designed fabric or to practise Contrology (Pilates) you must look at the detail. You weave to create a strong, long-lasting piece of fabric. Studying my new craft- Contrology, I support and help create strong, beautiful, balanced bodies and minds.
My mentor and friend, Holly Murray from PI Studios in London is my greatest Inspiration. She was taught originally by Romana Kryzanowska, a student of Joseph Pilates and his wife Clara. Holly introduced me to Bob Leikins before he died, his inspirational teaching lives on in many of us. Holly has been my greatest guide, giving me the very best understanding of the Classical Pilates Repertoire. Second to Holly is Maria Earle. Maria and I share a passion for language and communication. Maria generously shared her unique teachings from the first generation teacher Kathy Grant.
"Mutual support can help all of us. Connection is much needed in our community. Diminishing the sense that as Pilates Teachers we are solo swimmers, I want to encourage a more collective awareness, more a world of support, care and kindness." ~Jen Day
The future of Pilates is not found in more exercises. It is found in deeper attention. The most impactful teachers are not remembered for perfect cueing. They are remembered because: They felt seen, they felt capable, they felt connected and they felt transformed. Technique remains important. Knowledge remains important. But meaning emerges when knowledge is delivered through presence, curiosity, compassion, and awareness. The Pilates teacher of the future is not simply an instructor, they are a facilitator of embodied living. And that work extends far beyond the reformer, the mat, or the studio.
It touches the way people inhabit their lives.
The Intangible made Tangible
Teaching Pilates taught me how to shape my inner and outer world. That's why I teach it, that's what The Method gave to me. Inviting people into our spaces in a way they can find lost connections, restore balance and reignite freedom and expression to move well. I know it goes way beyond this. The method is my framework and the depths found within this are expansive beyond words, and I love words.
Clients are not simply bodies attached to minds, nor are they collections of muscles, joints, and movement patterns waiting to be corrected. They are whole human beings whose physical experiences are deeply intertwined with their thoughts, emotions, beliefs, relationships, and life circumstances.
Every movement they make is influenced not only by anatomy and biomechanics but also by their history, habits, stress levels, confidence, and sense of self. When we recognize this interconnectedness, our teaching becomes more compassionate, responsive, and meaningful.
Rather than treating movement as an isolated physical task, we begin to appreciate it as an expression of the entire person.
